As anyone who knows us will already confirm, our absolute favourite comedian is Mr Tony Law. We first saw him at a late night gig in Soho hosted by the fantastic Sarah Kendall and the hugely talented Cariad Lloyd ‘I’m Cockney Sam, I am’. Above everyone else, Tony got us hooked on live comedy, so I guess he has a lot to answer for 🙂
Last year we were part of a 17 strong audience watching him at Exeter Bike Shed as part of the LOL festival, this year he was in front of a sell out audience at the Phoenix, a sign of how his unique brand of comedy has finally appeared on the radar after many years of struggling. We had already seen this show at Edinburgh in August and of the 53 shows we saw up there he was the best, and we were gutted he did not win best show at the festival. So we were here again, knowing exactly what to expect, and the man delivers again. Banter, Scoop Mud, a Tin Drum, Racist Elephants and so much more and in a cocked snoop at the critics who have said down the years that he cannot finish a routine, he finishes sublimely with the audience singing along to ‘Tony doesn’t know how to end his show’.
This was as the title says ‘Maximum Nonsense’, and the world is a much better place for it. We love you Mr Tony Law and simply cannot wait until we get to see you again in Plymouth on the 6th April. Please go along to the BBar and lose yourself in the most sublime comedy experience you will ever see.
